The Membership Committee is a key "department" of NAMA.  Members who serve on this committee and related work groups and subcommittees must follow NAMA policies and procedures in pursuit of completing their assigned functions.



Focus for Fiscal Year 2015 (July 1, 2015 - June 30, 2016)

  • Produce the Professional Forum to be held Thursday, April 14, 2016, to provide additional education and information to members about issues directly related to our profession.
  • Further development of a robust Professional Ayurvedic Continuing Education (PACE) program including training offered directly by NAMA as well as programs offered by NAMA-approved PACE providers.
  • Work with the Standards Committee to implement the Category 3: Ayurvedic Doctor professional membership.
  • Continue to follow up with members through surveys and direct contacts to listen and address member needs.

  • Provide outreach to prospective members, as well as lapsed members.

  • Re-evaluate the benefits and structure of the Communities of Practice for members.


On-going Responsibilities

  • Provide policies and direction to the organization that support the growth and viability of the organization’s membership.

  • Assess membership benefits, dues levels and requirements, and make recommendations to the board as necessary to support the organization’s growth.

  • Work closely with NAMA’s online data management system and membership platform to ensure accurate membership information and a robust system for NAMA members to connect, coordinate and provide current and useful information.

  • Work on membership retention issues as well as ways to attract new members in all membership categories.

  • Provide consistent communication to the membership through the e-newsletter and online resources.

  • Supervise processing of professional membership applications and the approval of new professional members.

  • Oversee the processing of student membership applications to ensure the student status of each applicant is confirmed.

  • Work with schools and other organizations to encourage organizational member growth. 

  • Identify ways to clarify what the NAMA membership needs and find ways to meet those needs.

  • Address issues brought by members to the association.


Specific Tasks & Accomplishments

  • Provided oversight and assistance in the production of two regional events to reach out to our membership in a way that identified and supported issues specific to their regions of the country; events were well attended and resulted in positive connections with NAMA Members.

>> Pacific regional event took place July 25 – 26, 2014

>> Eastern regional event occurred September 12-14, 2014

  • Developed and announced the Professional Ayurvedic Continuing Education (PACE) program at the Professional Forum on April 9, 2015.

  • Conducted the fourth Professional Forum prior to the 2015 NAMA conference to provide information and updates on NAMA’s current activities that have a direct impact on professional members.

  • Created and launched the Professional Ethics exam for all professional members to complete to earn two required continuing education credits.

  • Developed process for NAMA professional members to become NAMA approved providers of the PACE program.

  • Designed and mailed professional member wall certificates to all Ayurvedic Health Counselors and Ayurvedic Practitioners for display in their offices.

  • Membership grew from approximately 1,000 members to 1,089.  As of August 24, 2015, membership numbers were:

>> Professional: 723

>> Student: 136

>> General: 176

>> Organizational: 54
